About the role:

Please note: this is a full-time, fixed-term role, starting at the beginning of July and finishing at the end of December 2025.

As a Youth Tutor you will be responsible for delivering the Level 2 Foundation Skills course. You will ensure that each NZMA Youth Guarantee student is provided with an optimal total learning experience – where they are welcomed into the campus and treated with cultural understanding and respect. You will also provide quality teaching and learning support, guidance and help and assist the students in their transition to higher education and ultimately employment.

The Youth Tutor will provide support to the students within and outside of the classroom to help our youth succeed and transition into adult learning. The Youth tutor will successfully embed Literacy, Language and Numeracy (LLN) principles into the learning context and build the student's functional skills to support retention and successful outcomes.

External support will include building and utilising strong community contacts and developing a strong understanding of support systems available for our youth students to succeed.

About you:

We are looking for someone who has previous experience working with youth in alternative education or youth development sectors and who are aware of the unique challenges youth bring. You will have the following skills/experience:

  • Strong background working with youth
  • Prior experience teaching foundation level courses highly advantageous
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Ability to excite and install passion through your teaching
  • Experience teaching youth or adult learners in a tertiary/relevant education environment preferred but not essential

If you have good experience working with youth and are passionate about for making a positive impact on the lives of the future generation but not necessarily teaching experience, we'd still love to hear from you!
