Work Group Manager, Ground Engineering – Nelson

At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives enabling you to do the best work of your life. You can experience a world of opportunities to shape a career as unique as you.

WSP is one of the world's top professional services firms, bringing together some of the brightest engineers, advisors and scientists from across the globe. We exist to shape communities to advance humanity. We see the world through a Future Ready® lens, fuelled by a shared commitment to making a positive impact—one project and community at a time.

This is a newly created role in a growing team that blends leadership and technical components, giving you the best of both worlds. Based in our Nelson office, you will lead the Ground Engineering team to deliver high-quality project outcomes, strong commercial performance, and exceptional client service. You will be able to create an environment where people are supported to grow their careers, develop their capabilities, and contribute to a positive and high-performing team culture.

Also key to this role is building and maintaining strong client relationships, identifying opportunities to grow and diversify the Ground Engineering service offering, and working alongside the Business Manager to deliver the Nelson, and broader Upper South and Regional business plans and strategic objectives.

This role is in addition to a technical role, which will be aligned to your skills, experience, and professional expertise. Candidates may come from a ground engineering background, but this is not a requirement. Complementary areas of expertise such as project management, risk and resilience, environmental engineering, or other relevant disciplines will also be considered.

About you:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Preferably minimum of 10 years' professional experience in a related discipline
  • A solid understanding and experience within the ground engineering sector
  • Relevant professional registration or working towards this
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, strong commercial drive and client centric approach

Imagine a better future for you and a better future for us all.

We are proud to have the blueprint of Aotearoa New Zealand in our DNA and our 2,000+ expert professionals in 24 offices are united by the common purpose of creating positive, long-lasting impacts on the communities we serve.
