Primary and intermediate (Years 1–8) / kura tuatahi, Certificated teacher

Our foundation Whānau Class kaiako is retiring, and we're now looking for a dedicated, experienced NZ-registered teacher who puts the student and Te Ao Māori at the core of their philosophy and teaching approach to join our team.

Teacher requirements

• Cultural competency and commitment:Be passionate about te reo Māori and tikanga Māori, with a dedication to strengthening language proficiency (speaking, listening, reading, writing) and deepening understanding of local iwi narratives, protocols, and values.
• Teaching Philosophy:Guided by Kaupapa Māori principles-living Māori values, language, and ways of being, with a focus on fostering a strong sense of identity, belonging, and building positive relationships.
• Te Reo Māori Progression:Capable of delivering initial instruction predominantly in English while incrementally increasing the level of te reo Māori instruction as students gain confidence, preparing them for a future transition to bilingual instruction.
• Pedagogical Lens:Skilled in delivering inquiry and subject content through a te Ao Māori lens, integrating mātauranga Māori across the curriculum.

Working structure

• Cohort and Team Integration:Operates under the Kāhu Whānau (Senior school Year 5 and 6) umbrella, running a composite Year 5 and 6 class.
• Curriculum Alignment:Fully aligns with the New Zealand Curriculum, following the same Year 5 and 6 overview, core subjects, assessment schedules, tests, EOTC (school trips), sports, music, and drama with our mainstream classes.
• Student Support & Inclusivity:Facilitates equal access to standard learning support and extension groups, accommodating both Māori students and non-Māori students embracing the kaupapa.

This is a permanent position, starting at the beginning of Term 1, 2027.
