Job summary

Citycare Water is seeking an experienced Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to join our Whangamata team. You'll operate and maintain plants, perform routine maintenance, sampling, and reporting to meet drinking water standards and consent conditions.

We value safe, accurate work, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous improvement, with a NZ Certificate in Drinking Water Treatment (Level 4) and a full Class 1 driving licence as key requirements.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years’ practical experience operating water and/or wastewater treatment plants, or a strong interest in developing your skills.
  • Hold a New Zealand Certificate in Drinking Water Treatment (Level 4).
  • Good understanding of resource consent conditions, drinking water standards, and environmental compliance, with a commitment to learning and growth.
  • Confident with sampling, testing, and reporting processes, and comfortable using digital systems such as SCADA to monitor performance.
  • Highly organised with great time management and problem-solving skills, and a strong focus on safety and quality.
  • A supportive team player who values collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Full Class 1 driver’s licence and confident driving manual vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain water and/or wastewater treatment plants to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable performance.
  • Carry out routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and compliance monitoring to meet all regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Conduct sampling, testing, and reporting in line with drinking water standards and resource consent conditions.
  • Promote a strong Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality culture, ensuring all work is completed safely and to high standards.

About the job:
