Job summary

GHD is seeking a developing Water Infrastructure Engineer to join our national water team based in Christchurch or Wellington. You will contribute to the design and delivery of water infrastructure solutions across the full project lifecycle, from planning to construction support, working as part of multi-disciplinary teams.

You will be mentored by senior engineers and apply 12D, Civil3D and GIS to pipelines, pumps, reservoirs and utilities, collaborating with clients to deliver robust,

Qualifications

  • A relevant university degree in Civil engineering.
  • 4+ years' experience in water infrastructure design or delivery.
  • Knowledge of water, wastewater and/or stormwater systems.
  • Ability to undertake engineering analysis and contribute to practical solutions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Design software skills (12D, Civil3D, ACAD, GIS).
  • Organised and able to meet deadlines.
  • Proactive approach to taking ownership of tasks.
  • Self-motivated and energetic.
  • Flexible in approach to challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, design and delivery of water infrastructure projects, including water supply, wastewater and stormwater systems.
  • Contribute to the design of pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs and associated infrastructure.
  • Undertake engineering analysis, calculations and documentation to support project outcomes.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings and specifications in line with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with project teams to deliver work safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Support project delivery processes, including adherence to quality, safety and risk management frameworks.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders and support client interactions as part of project delivery.
  • Develop good business relationships with existing and potential clients to ensure required project outcomes.
  • Perform office and site-based roles, including working with virtual teams across GHD offices nationally and internationally.
  • Provide guidance to graduate design engineers on projects and be able to train and mentor them.

About the Role:

The role involves supporting the design and delivery of water infrastructure solutions across the full project lifecycle, from planning and investigations through to detailed design and construction support. You will work as part of multi-disciplinary teams delivering technically robust and practical outcomes for our clients.

  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, drawings and specifications in line with project requirements

About You:

You are a developing engineer with a strong foundation in civil or water engineering and a desire to grow your experience in infrastructure delivery. You demonstrate sound engineering judgement and contribute to solving complex problems in a structured and practical way, consistent with professional expectations at GHD. You enjoy working collaboratively, take accountability for your work, and are motivated to deliver outcomes that make a positive difference for clients and communities.

  • A relevant university degree in Civil engineering
  • 4+ years' experience in water infrastructure design or delivery within a consulting or infrastructure environment
  • Knowledge of water, wastewater and/or stormwater systems and associated design standards
  • Ability to undertake engineering analysis and contribute to practical, buildable solutions
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A proactive approach to learning and professional development
  • Design software skills (i.e., 12D, Civil3D, ACAD, GIS)
  • Organised in multitasking of self and others and able to meet deadlines
  • Ability to be proactive and take ownership of tasks and projects
