Job summary

Whangārei District Council is seeking a Distribution Technician to join the Water Services team on a fixed-term basis to provide parental leave cover. The role is office-based with occasional site visits and a strong emphasis on customer service and accurate record-keeping.

No prior water experience is required, and candidates from construction, administration or similar practical backgrounds are welcome to learn the water-specific aspects on the job.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Respond to customer enquiries relating to water supply, consumption, metering and billing.
• Investigate unusual water use, meter readings, leaks and related issues.
• Process applications for new connections to the public water supply.
• Liaise with customers, plumbers, developers and contractors throughout the connection process.
• Monitor connection works and inspect installations for standards compliance.
• Check documentation and records for new water connections.
• Coordinate residential water meter replacement programme.
• Maintain accurate records and assist reporting within the Water Distribution team.
