Job summary

QEII National Trust | Ngā Kairauhī Papa seeks an experienced independent contractor to be the regional representative for Waikato, covering Waikato District and Hamilton City. The role involves protecting private land biodiversity and cultural heritage through a 950-hour-per-year contract, with flexibility to add hours if needed.

You will build relationships with landowners, monitor covenants, and provide ecological advice while coordinating with Wellington’s advisors.

Qualifications

• Experience in conservation, ecology, environmental management, land management or related field.
• Sound ecological understanding of indigenous flora, fauna and threats in Waikato.
• Experience working with landowners and practical land management solutions.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build partnerships with councils, iwi and community groups.
• Ability to work independently in rural/backcountry environments with good self-management.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, GIS-based mapping and databases.
• Current first aid certificate.
• Own vehicle, NZ Drivers Licence, cell phone, computer and home-office setup.
• Capacity to commit to a long-term contract.

Responsibilities

• Build trusted relationships with landowners in the region.
• Monitor existing QEII covenants and advise on covenant compliance.
• Assess sites for protection and prepare reports for QEII executives.
• Collaborate with ecological advisors and the Wellington office.
