Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, Starship Community in Auckland, seeks a permanent, full-time Vision Hearing Tester to deliver vision and hearing screening for children across early childhood, school, home and clinic settings, using national protocols.

You will maintain accurate records, update databases, and ensure equipment is well cared for, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to support child health.

Qualifications

• Hold a clean, current NZ driver’s license.
• Experience working with children is required or preferred.
• Strong technical aptitude for screening equipment and protocols.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

About the role

We are seeking a permanent, full-time Vision Hearing Tester who will be providing vision and hearing screening of children in early childhood, school, home and clinic settings according to the National Hearing Vision Screening Protocols which include the B4School Check, School New Entrant and Year 7 screening. This role maintains accurate records and documentation, including the upkeep of accurate results into a database and ensuring the care of equipment.

About the Service

Starship Community provides multidisciplinary care and cultural support to children, young people and their whānau living within the Auckland area. Our nursing, allied health and technical staff deliver health care services to children, young people, and their whānau in their home, school and community settings. A part of this service is the Hearing & Ear Health team consisting of our talented Audiologists, Newborn Hearing Screeners, Ear Nurses and Vision and Hearing Technicians.

About you

• Hold a clean, current and full NZ drivers license
• Have experience working with children
• Bring with you a strong technical aptitude
• Have excellent communication skills both written and verbally
• Be capable of working both independently and within a team
• Desired: National Certificate in Community Support Services (Vision and Hearing Screening) (Level 3)
• Desired: Experience in working in the health or education sector
