A leading vineyard company in Blenheim is seeking a Vineyard Operator to join their team. Qualifications

Job description

Booster, through its Booster Tahi investment arm, is making significant investments in New Zealand’s agricultural business including avocados, kiwi fruit, and through investments in Awatere River, Waimea Estates, Gravity Cellars, Bannock Brae and Sileni Estates, the wine industry. It is here where a dynamic, reliable team player is required to join our Awatere River Vineyards as a Vineyard Operator.

You will be part of our viticultural operations team that is responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of our processes across vineyards in Seddon. This is a hands-on role that involves operations and maintenance to keep our vineyards up to the highest standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Working flexible hours from time to time throughout the viticulture year
  • Working well in a small team and leading casual staff when required
  • Performing duties as directed, safely, effectively, and efficiently, using viticulture's best practice
  • Undertaking basic vineyard maintenance such as irrigation and trellis repairs and having knowledge of young vine care
  • Demonstrating practical knowledge of machinery and implement use including ATVs, tractors, and vineyard equipment

Requirements for this role include:

  • Show proof of a current GrowSafe Certificate & Approved Handler Certificate, but training can be arranged for the right person
  • Previous experience operating and working with machinery, irrigation, young vines, trellis, and property maintenance would be a definite advantage
  • An enthusiastic, open-minded, self-motivated, organised, details-focused and strong communicator with great time management skills

General vineyard duties relating to this job will include:

  • Seasonal work – harvest, spraying, trellis repairs and general vineyard duties
  • Collecting vineyard data such as yield information and maturity sampling
  • Assisting with the grape spray programme
  • Use of vineyard machinery, including tractors, ATV’s, mowers, sprayers, trimmers, and other vineyard equipment
  • Irrigating, young vine training, trellis and property maintenance

A driver’s license is essential for this role. All onsite training will be given. Competitive pay rates and other benefits will be discussed at interview and will depend on experience of the successful candidate.
