Job description
Overview

Most adverts for vets sound the same: work–life balance, great clients, supportive teams. This practice is different. They are proudly independent, built on one principle: patients come first. No corporate sales targets, no upselling, no conveyor-belt consults. Just trust, integrity, and honest veterinary medicine.

They are looking for an experienced veterinary surgeon who’s ready for more than “just another role.” If you have 5+ years’ experience, this could be your chance to combine clinical freedom, leadership responsibility, and a genuine long-term future, with ownership potential for the right person.

The practice was founded by April Jones, a UK-trained vet who built and ran a successful clinic before emigrating to NZ in 2003. With a background advising governments, working alongside police, and even appearing as a TV presenter, she has built a practice where values come first.

The team is small enough to feel close-knit, but strong enough to handle a wide variety of cases. They back each other, respect expertise, and protect time outside of work. You’ll find no toxic overtime culture here. Instead, you’ll have the time, tools, and support to deliver the standard of care you know animals deserve, while still living your life.

What makes this role special?
  • True balance – flexible scheduling and a culture that values your time.
  • Clinical excellence – strong referral partnerships plus advanced in-house orthopaedic and sonography services.
  • Supportive team – collaboration and humour instead of pressure and politics.
  • Future pathway – leadership now, with ownership potential ahead.

We know the best vets want more than just a pay slip. That’s why they offer not only a competitive salary and benefits, but also the chance to grow into a leadership role, and potentially into practice ownership. This isn’t just a job; it’s a secure, fulfilling future in a profession you love.

A long-term locum summed things up perfectly: “The Ardmore Vet helped remind me that I do belong in the veterinary industry and it is possible to have a work / life balance. This is a great practice for an experienced, independent vet.”
