Job summary

WorkSafe New Zealand is seeking a User Experience Designer to apply user-centred design across WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru. You will map user journeys, identify pain points and test concepts with users and stakeholders to deliver practical, effective services.

You will collaborate with analysts, planners and delivery teams, translating research into tangible journeys and prototypes to support organisational priorities. Permanent role at any WorkSafe location.

Qualifications

  • Experience applying user-centred or human-centred design methods.
  • Experience conducting interviews, observation or usability testing.
  • Ability to turn research into journey maps, concepts or prototypes.
  • Strong collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Clear communication of design insights to varied audiences.
  • Experience in service design, interaction design or public sector settings.

About your team / Ko te tīma

Enterprise Planning and Implementation is a new group established at WorkSafe to strengthen planning, coordination, and implementation across the organisation, particularly to improve how work is prioritised, sequenced, and supported through to delivery.

The Business Design Services team sits within Enterprise Planning and Implementation and works across WorkSafe to support better planning, coordination and implementation. The team partners with business analysts, planners, subject matter experts and delivery teams to design practical, coherent solutions that support organisational priorities.

About the role / Ō te tūranga

As User Experience Designer, you will bring user-centred design expertise to business design activity across WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru. You will help teams understand user needs, behaviours and experiences, map journeys, surface pain points and opportunities, and test design concepts with users and stakeholders so services, processes and ways of working are practical, effective and fit for purpose.

Salary range / Awhe utu

The expected appointment base salary is $83,137 -$91,571 (KiwiSaver/SSRSS employer contributions are additional). From 1 April 2026 our KiwiSaver employer contribution increased to 3.5%.
