The Unit Coordinator will be responsible for:

  1. Principles, Duties, and Responsibilities:
  2. Ensure that patients and family members are attended to in a caring and attentive manner.
  3. Respond promptly to the needs of patients and families while maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor.
  4. Work cohesively as part of the Patient Care Team to ensure smooth and efficient unit operation.
  5. Greet all patients and families, provide unit orientation, and respond to initial questions.
  6. Respond to individual needs of patients and families.
  7. Maintain hospital service standards, focusing on personal/behavioral, staff teamwork, and patient-staff interaction guidelines.
  8. Manage all phone calls to the unit, including answering, coordinating, and placing pages or calls as requested by clinical staff.
  9. Coordinate paperwork, including fax referrals, and maintain patient medical records in an organized manner.
  10. Schedule diagnostic tests, appointments, and consults as directed by physicians or RNs, and arrange patient transport and escort services.
  11. Manage logistics of patient discharge, including family notification, transportation, equipment, prescriptions, and follow-up appointments.
  12. Perform clerical duties related to patient admission, transfer, and discharge, ensuring all patient belongings and documentation accompany transfers.
  13. Prepare diet order sheets for approval.
  14. Act as a liaison and assist in problem-solving with ancillary services and other departments.
  15. Provide backup coverage for patient transport and discharge escorting.
  16. Monitor and ensure that Advance Care Directives are current and in the patient chart.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree preferred; High School Diploma or equivalent required. Consideration for students with appropriate judgment and qualifications.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a medical or customer service setting preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Strong computer skills in a Windows-based environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
