Job summary

OceanaGold in Otago, New Zealand, seeks an Underground Supervisor/Shift Boss for Macraes Mine. The role oversees safe, efficient underground mining, managing production targets and coordinating with engineers. A B grade Tunnel Manager’s Certificate or the ability to obtain one is preferred, with NZ work rights and a valid manual licence.

Residential in Otago with a 7-day roster. You will lead a team, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with safety and reporting standards.

Qualifications

• B grade Tunnel Manager’s Certificate or ability to acquire one within a given timeframe.
• Controlled Substance Licence suitable for operation at Macraes Underground Mine.
• Full and Current Driver Licence; ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.
• Unrestricted New Zealand work rights / current working Visa is required for this position.

Responsibilities

• Oversee underground activities in line with mining schedules and company safety standards.
• Coordinate resources with Production Engineer to meet mining schedules.
• Maintain safe work practices and use of all equipment underground.
• Ensure incidents are documented per INX and follow company guidelines.
• Lead and develop mining personnel to align with company values.

Job Description

Please note that it would be preferred that the successful candidate holds a B grade Tunnel Manager’s Certificate of Competence or has the ability to acquire one within a given timeframe. This role is based at Macraes, East Otago, New Zealand. A relocation to the Otago area will be required if living outside of the region.

This position is primarily responsible for overseeing safe and efficient mining practices inline with the published mining schedules. This role is also responsible for the efficient use of all equipment and safe work processes underground.

Working roster of 6:15am/pm to 7:00pm/am, 7days on, 7days off, 7nights on, 7days off, based at Macraes Mine, East Otago, New Zealand.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Supervise all underground activities.

• Ensure all development headings are mined toplan.

• Ensure all production activities are conducted toplan.

• In conjunction with the Production Engineer, ensure resources are in place to meet miningschedules.

• Effective use of SIMBIO data system to create a productive 24hr rollingplan.

• Review underground mining methods and implement improvements when required.

• Review production targets in conjunction with Mining Superintendent to coordinate the implementation of operational improvement plans.

• Retain a clear understanding of the production forecast, work with production engineers to maintain focus on common goals.

• Lead and develop mining personnel to ensure cultural behaviours are inline with company values.

• Ensure all incidents are documented in INX and correct process is followed as per company guidelines.

• Investigate non-compliances to policies and standards and take action to ensure positive outcomes for the underground mine operations group.

Qualifications

• B grade Tunnel Manager’s Certificate of Competence or has the ability to acquire one within a given timeframe.

• Controlled Substance Licence suitable for operation at Macraes Underground Mine.

• Full and Current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.

• Unrestricted New Zealand work rights / current working Visa is required for this position.

Experience

• A minimum of 5 years underground metalliferous mining experience with experience in development and production techniques.

• Previous supervisory experience is preferred but is not essential.

• Extensive knowledge of the practices and techniques applied in underground mining.
