Job summary

One Square Rate in Canterbury is looking for an experienced Excavator Operator with a Class 2 licence to join the Prebbleton-based yard. You will operate excavators across residential, commercial, and subdivision projects and move machinery between sites using a tip truck.

This hands-on role suits someone confident around heavy equipment, with a good eye for levels and earthworks, who can work efficiently with minimal direction and contribute to safe, well-organised sites across Canterbury.

Qualifications

• Experience operating excavators on landscaping or construction sites.
• Ability to read site levels and perform earthworks.

• Confident around machinery and other site crews.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators on landscaping and site works.
• Prepare sites with scrapes, trenching, levelling.
• Load/unload machinery and transport between sites.
• Carry out daily checks and maintenance of equipment.
• Assist with general site work as required.

One Square Rate is looking for an experienced Excavator Operator with a Class 2 licence to join the Canterbury team. Based from the Prebbleton yard, you'll work across residential, commercial, and subdivision landscaping projects, operating excavators and transporting machinery between sites using a tip truck. This is a hands‑on role for someone who is confident around machinery, understands site levels and excavation work, and can work efficiently without needing constant direction.

Key responsibilities

• Operating excavators across a range of landscaping and site works
• Site scrapes, excavation, trenching, levelling, and general earthworks
• Loading and unloading machinery
• Driving a Class 2 tip truck
• Transporting excavators and equipment between sites
• Removing spoil and delivering aggregates and materials
• Carrying out daily checks and looking after machinery and vehicles
• Assisting with general site work when required

About you

• A full Class 2 New Zealand driver licence
• Confidence transporting and securing machinery
• Good understanding of levels, site preparation, and earthworks
• Experience working safely around other machinery and site crews
• Reliability and punctuality
• A practical attitude and ability to get on with the job
• Good awareness of Health and Safety
• WTR endorsements and additional machinery experience would be an advantage
