Job summary

Ventia in Wellington seeks an experienced Transmission Line Mechanic Charge Hand to lead crews across construction, maintenance, and upgrade projects. This hands-on leadership role focuses on safety, quality and on-schedule delivery in demanding field conditions.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Transmission Line Mechanic Charge Hand to join our team in Wellington and provide hands‑on leadership across transmission line construction, maintenance, and upgrade projects. This role is ideal for a qualified Transmission Line Mechanic who is ready to take the next step in their career by leading crews, driving safe work practices, and ensuring high‑quality project delivery.

As a Charge Hand, you'll work alongside your crew in the field while coordinating daily activities, supporting team development, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate transmission line crews undertaking construction, maintenance, refurbishment, and fault response activities.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture through active leadership and compliance with company and industry requirements.
  • Plan daily work activities, allocate resources, and monitor progress against project schedules.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and support to Transmission Line Mechanics, apprentices, and trainees.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, and site safety briefings.
  • Perform transmission line construction and maintenance activities, including tower erection, line stringing, insulator replacement, hardware installation, and structure maintenance.
  • Liaise with Supervisors, Project Managers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and project delivery.
  • Identify and elevate site risks, hazards, and operational issues as required.
  • Complete required documentation, reporting, and quality records accurately and on time.
