Job summary

Orion Group in Canterbury, New Zealand, is seeking a Training Solutions Specialist to design engaging learning experiences that build capability across our electricity network. You will translate complex technical information into practical training and work with SMEs and stakeholders to deliver accessible, safe learning across formats.

This role offers the chance to modernise learning, try new ideas and technologies, and influence capability development in a safety‑critical industry.

Qualifications

  • Depth of experience designing training solutions within high‑risk or technical environments is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles and how people learn most effectively.
  • Ability to simplify technical information into engaging learning experiences.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and confidence to work with subject matter experts.
  • Continuous improvement mindset and curiosity for new learning approaches and technologies.
  • Strong planning, organisation and attention to detail.
  • Passion for helping people build capability in a safe, high‑performing workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Design engaging training and assessment programmes for safe, competent performance.
  • Turn complex technical information into practical, easy‑to‑understand learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with SMEs to identify learning needs and develop fit‑for‑purpose solutions.
  • Develop training across multiple formats: classroom, practical, on‑the‑job and digital learning.
  • Develop training frameworks, systems and tools, including Learning Management Systems.
  • Introduce new approaches and technologies to improve learner engagement and outcomes.
  • Continuously review and enhance training content based on feedback and best practice.

The role

About you
  • Depth of experience designing training solutions within a high-risk or technical environment within the electricity industry or other safety-critical environment will be an advantage
  • A strong understanding of adult learning principles and how people learn most effectively
  • The ability to simplify technical or operational information into engaging learning experiences
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the confidence to work with subject matter experts
  • A continuous improvement mindset and genuine curiosity for new learning approaches and technologies
  • Strong planning, organisation and attention to detail
