Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

There's something satisfying about a role where you can see the results of what you do. From keeping our buildings and substations well maintained, to managing contractors, solving unexpected problems and making sure work is delivered.

We're looking for a Contract Manager (Buildings) to help manage maintenance, facilities and building improvement contracts across our property assets. You'll still have a strong connection to the practical side of the work, spending time out on site and working closely with contractors, while developing your experience across contracts, budgets, maintenance and project delivery.

If you're organised, practical and someone who naturally keeps things moving, there's a lot to get stuck into here.

About us

Passionate, curious, and innovative are a few words that describe our people. We are powering the future, connecting communities, and igniting innovation. Orion owns and operates the electricity distribution network that provides power to central Canterbury. As the third largest electricity distribution network in New Zealand, we cover remote rural areas, regional towns, and the city of Christchurch.

We are an essential service and take our responsibilities seriously. We are community owned and working here means a career with meaning and purpose that makes a difference in your very own neighbourhood.

The role
  • Managing building maintenance, facilities and capital renewal contracts, documentation and overall delivery
  • Coordinating contractors and service providers, ensuring work is completed safely, on time and to a high-standard
  • Overseeing maintenance and asset management across administrative buildings, substations and other corporate properties
  • Managing the commercial detail, including obtaining and evaluating quotations, reviewing invoices and keeping a close eye on costs
  • Responding to planned and urgent maintenance, and working through practical solutions on site and with the people doing the work
  • Building strong relationships across the business and with contractors and external stakeholders, keeping people informed, resolving issues and ensuring actions are followed through
About you

Perhaps you're a builder or come from a related trade and are ready to use your practical experience in a different way.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Strong practical experience within building, construction or a related trade
  • A good understanding of construction and maintenance work with confidence working alongside contractors
  • The ability to organise, prioritise and keep multiple pieces of work moving
  • Strong relationship skills, with the confidence to influence, negotiate and have constructive conversations
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach with good judgement and attention to detail
  • A relevant qualification or equivalent practical experience, along with a clean current full Class 1 driver licence

We encourage you to be you in your application! We are truly committed to diversity, inclusion and lifting our cultural capability.

We offer

You'll find at Orion, you can come as you are and just be you. You will be joining a workplace that values who you are, the work you do, and the way you think. Importantly, we offer:

  • Flexible working arrangements, and flexible locations with our Head office in Burnside and satellite offices in Rolleston and Ferrymead
  • Three days of "My Days" leave
  • A broad range of workplace benefits from a wellbeing allowance to access to our holiday house in Hanmer!

You might be surprised to find out that the company that brings the power to your home is innovative, inclusive, progressive, and quite good fun.

You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this job. Pre-employment checks are part of our recruitment process.
