Job summary

Orion is seeking a Trainer Coach (Network Operations) to translate field experience into practical training that raises network operation competencies. You will work across classroom, field and broader business to develop capability and safety culture.

You will collaborate with field crews and partners to ensure training reflects real-world needs and regulatory requirements, while helping shape the annual coaching programme.

Qualifications

• Level 6 NZDE (Electrical) or equivalent with current registration and practising licence.
• Strong operational experience in transmission and/or distribution environments.
• Proven credibility to coach and guide safe work practices.
• Experience delivering training, assessments or structured coaching.
• Strong communication and planning abilities.

Responsibilities

• Deliver classroom and practical training and assessments for network operating competencies.
• Coach field staff and provide technical guidance for safe, effective operations.
• Ensure training and assessments are engaging, relevant and fit for purpose.
• Apply field experience to improve operating standards, procedures and learning resources.

Job description

You've built strong experience in electricity network operations and understand what good operational practice looks like. Now, you might be ready to use that knowledge in a different way. As our Trainer Coach (Network Operations), you'll draw on your operational experience to help others develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to work safely and effectively on our network. You'll provide training and coaching, contribute to learning resources, and play an important role in strengthening capability across Orion while remaining connected to field operations.

The role

Working across the classroom, field and wider business, you will:

• Deliver classroom and practical training and assessment that supports the development and maintenance of network operating competencies
• Work alongside Orion employees in the field, providing coaching and technical guidance that supports safe and effective network operations
• Help ensure training and assessments are engaging, relevant and fit for purpose
• Apply your field experience as a subject matter expert to improve operating standards, procedures and learning resources
• Support the planning and delivery of our annual training and coaching programme

You'll work closely with our field teams, contractors, service delivery partners and other technical specialists, bringing an operational perspective to how we build capability across the network.

About you

• Level 6 NZDE (Electrical) or equivalent practical experience with a current electrical registration and practising licence
• Strong operational experience in transmission and/or distribution environments with sound knowledge of network operations, safety-critical risk management and regulatory requirement
• Proven credibility in the field, with the ability to coach, influence and guide safe work practices through real-world operational experience
• Experience delivering technical training, assessments or structured coaching that translates standards and legislation into practical, usable outcomes
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with field crews, leaders, contractors and service delivery partners
• A practical, organised approach to planning work, setting priorities and managing time across both field and office environments
• A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify opportunities to improve training, assessments and competency development
