Medical Laboratory Trainee/ Technician – Specimen Services

Awanui Labs Taranaki provides high-quality diagnostic pathology services to the community, health care professionals, and their patients. Awanui Labs Taranaki is owned by Awanui Group (Previously known as Asia Pacific Healthcare Group), a healthcare company committed to providing facilities and services that deliver exceptional care to its clients.

Our Taranaki laboratory provides community pathology services, serving a population of approximately 125,000.

About the role | Mō te tūranga:

We are looking for a Medical Laboratory Trainee or Technician for our Specimen Services team. This is a permanent full-time role of 80 hours fortnightly.

Your key tasks will include barcoding, receipting, and preparing specimens coming into the laboratory; performing data entry of patient and test details; and answering telephones. You will work collaboratively as part of the team, work well under pressure, and have an eye for detail and problem-solving ability.

To succeed in this role you will need the following:
  • The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.
  • Customer focus and commitment to providing a high quality of service to internal and external customers with effective interpersonal skills.
  • A sound knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory operations including safety, operation of equipment, and hands-on practical experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Diploma in Applied Science, or a Bachelor of Science would be an advantage, but not essential.
  • Registration with the Medical Science Council and an annual practising certificate as a Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician in the Specimen Services Department is desirable but not essential.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
