Job summary

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - Whanganui is offering a full-time, fixed-term position for a Trainee Cardiac Sonographer at Whanganui Hospital. The role provides postgraduate training in cardiac echocardiography alongside experienced sonographers and multidisciplinary teams.

You will participate in all aspects of cardiac ultrasound service delivery and develop practical skills to perform high-quality echocardiography examinations while contributing to patient care and service improvements.

Qualifications

• A relevant tertiary qualification in health
• Current New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate (where applicable)
• Eligibility and willingness to undertake postgraduate study in Cardiac Echocardiography
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong organisational and time management abilities
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment
• A commitment to equity, cultural safety and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
• Must have NZ Citizenship or Residency
• Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• A demonstrated interest in cardiac diagnostics or medical imaging

Responsibilities

• Participate in all aspects of cardiac ultrasound service delivery.
• Learn to perform accurate and timely echocardiography examinations.
• Support the triaging and prioritisation of referrals.
• Contribute to high standards of patient care and service delivery.
• Work collaboratively with cardiology, radiology and wider clinical teams.
• Participate in quality assurance, professional development and continuous improvement activities.
