Job summary

You will manage traffic flow across construction sites, roadworks, and events, ensuring safety for the public and workers while complying with NZTA standards and site-specific requirements.

Qualifications

• Current New Zealand Traffic Management Certification (NZTA approved).
• Previous experience in traffic control or a related field.
• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Managing traffic flow at construction sites, roadworks and events using appropriate signage, barriers and communication techniques
• Setting up and dismantling traffic control equipment in accordance with site requirements and safety standards
• Communicating clearly with drivers, pedestrians and site personnel to ensure safe passage and compliance with traffic directions
• Monitoring and enforcing traffic control measures to maintain site safety and public protection
• Responding promptly to changing conditions and adjusting traffic management strategies as required
• Maintaining accurate records and reporting any incidents, near-misses or hazards to site supervisors
• Adhering strictly to health and safety regulations and company policies at all times
• Working collaboratively with construction teams, event organisers and other site personnel

NZ Labour Hire Group is seeking experienced and reliable Traffic Control staff to join our team in New Plymouth, Taranaki. This is a casual position offering flexible work arrangements to suit your availability. As a Traffic Control operative, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of both the public and workers on various construction, roadworks and event sites. Your responsibility will be to manage traffic flow, maintain safety standards, and follow all health and safety regulations to create secure working environments across the region.

Key responsibilities

Managing traffic flow at construction sites, roadworks and events using appropriate signage, barriers and communication techniques

What we're looking for

Current New Zealand Traffic Management Certification (NZTA approved)

Previous experience in traffic control or a related field in the Trades & Services industry

Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and best practices

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure

High level of reliability and punctuality, particularly important for casual work arrangements

Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining safety standards

Valid driver's licence and own transport to reach sites across the Taranaki region

Flexibility to work varied hours, including early starts, evenings and weekends as required
