Trainee Marine Engineer

Currently, we\'re looking to add to our team of 1,200 employees and have opportunities for Trainee Marine Engineers.

Responsibilities
  • Nelson Based. Flights to ports, other than Nelson, will be at Sealord\'s expense.
  • 2-6 weeks trip on / 2-6 weeks trip off - paid / retainer + bonus
  • You will receive ongoing career coaching, development and support from your Chief Engineer, 1st Engineer and Marine Engineering Superintendent. You will have a workbook to complete and get the opportunity to work on a variety of machinery onboard the Sealord vessels under the tutelage of experienced engineers. At the end of your training you will sit the MEC ticket for your qualifications and be ready to become a fully qualified engineer on one of our vessels.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • You could have a MEC 6 ticket or be partway through your qualification or you may possibly be requiring sea time for completion. Alternatively may also have a trade qualification, i.e. diesel mechanic or fitter and turner, have experience in repairing and maintaining machinery or love working on vehicles and machinery as a hobby.
  • Shifts are in rotations of 12 hours on / 12 hours off, with meals provided by our experienced cooks.
  • Proven engineering or mechanical experience or a love of working on machinery and would enjoy working in a small close-knit team; positive can-do attitude, teamwork, safety focus, and ability to follow instructions and rules. Resilience and respect for each other and the environment are critical when at sea. Being committed to your team and tasks is imperative for the whole crew to be successful.

Additional Details

A satisfactory pre-employment drug test and a physical medical assessment will be required to be considered for this role. Applicants must have legal entitlement to live and work in New Zealand. As this is a permanent long term career pathway you will need to reside in New Zealand on a permanent basis.
