Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We sat down with the People Leader (who you would report to) and they told us the following about the role: What are some of the day-to-day tasks the person in this role will complete?

  • Lead the delivery of System Integration Testing (SIT) and Quality Engineering services across complex, large-scale technology programmes, ensuring high-quality outcomes that align with business objectives, customer expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Define, champion, and implement Automation-First testing strategies and frameworks that increase test coverage, accelerate delivery, reduce manual effort, and improve overall quality and operational efficiency across the software development lifecycle.
  • Provide strategic leadership for Quality Engineering practices, establishing scalable testing approaches, governance, and standards that enable consistent and predictable delivery outcomes across multiple programmes and teams.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop high-performing quality engineering teams, fostering a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning while supporting individual career growth and capability development.
  • Embed Quality Engineering principles across the delivery lifecycle, ensuring quality is built into solutions from inception through deployment by promoting shift-left practices, continuous testing, test automation, risk-based quality controls, and proactive defect prevention.
  • Partner closely with business, technology, architecture, product, and delivery stakeholders to provide quality leadership, influence delivery decisions, manage risks effectively, and ensure solutions meet functional, non-functional, and customer experience expectations.
  • Drive the adoption of modern testing methodologies, automation technologies, DevOps practices, and continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) capabilities, leveraging emerging industry trends, tools, and best practices to improve speed, reliability, and quality.

What is the team culture and environment like? This team operates in a collaborative and supportive environment where knowledge sharing, technical excellence, and continuous improvement are highly valued. Team members work closely together to solve complex problems, contribute ideas, and support each other's professional growth. There is a strong focus on quality, innovation, and delivering outcomes in line with established engineering standards.

What technical skills are required for this role?
  • Extensive experience in leading System Integration Testing (SIT) across large-scale, complex, multi-vendor programmes, consistently delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the definition, implementation, and leadership of Automation-First testing strategies within complex, integrated technology environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Quality Engineering principles, including the adoption of shift-left practices, continuous testing, quality-by-design methodologies, and risk-based testing approaches.
  • Significant experience in test automation and technical leadership across API, integration, data, batch-processing, and user interface testing domains.
  • Extensive experience in managing test coverage, traceability, and quality metrics through the effective use of industry-leading test management, automation, and DevOps platforms.
  • Strong commitment to software quality and customer outcomes, championing automation, testability, and continuous improvement throughout the delivery lifecycle.
What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this role?

To be successful in this role, you’ll be a confident quality engineering leader who can bring people together, influence across complex stakeholder groups, and keep delivery focused on quality outcomes. You’ll combine strong technical capability with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, helping teams navigate complexity while building trusted relationships across business, technology, delivery partners, and vendors.
