Z Energy NZ invites applications for a Ringahāpai Tumu Herenga Waka Terminal Operator based at Timaru Terminal. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract overseeing stock movements, safety checks, and ship-to-tank operations.
The role suits practically minded people who enjoy process, with on-the-job training provided. Regular hours Monday to Friday, with some overtime; in-house training to become Shore Officer and Permit to Work.
Z has a clear purpose: Powering better journeys, today and tomorrow. As one of New Zealand’s largest transport energy companies, we have a commitment to delivering safe, secure, and reliable transport energy – with the opportunity to deliver new journeys, with new energy solutions in a changing world.
We are proud to be the Kiwi contingent of Ampol, an independent Trans-Tasman energy company, with trading offices across the globe, which are united behind our shared purpose. While many of the challenges and opportunities we face go beyond national boundaries, together we have the scale, influence, and capability to deliver for our customers, communities, and our people.
Our Supply team are the team that fuels our customers, literally! Supply at Z Energy looks after the whole fuel supply chain and ensures our customers have energy when and where they need it. Our terminals and aviation teams are a critical part of this network that includes high hazard facilities, refuelling operations and industry joint ventures.
We are looking to welcome a Ringahāpai Tumu Herenga Waka Terminal Operator to the Z whānau based at our Timaru Terminal. This is a 12-month fixed term contract.
So, what is a Terminal? A Terminal is a critical piece of infrastructure that receives petrol and diesel from Ships which is pumped into large storage tanks. Trucks then load at the Terminal and deliver to Service Stations and Truck Stops to meet the energy needs of our customers.
What does working at a Z Fuel Terminal involve? A typical day might see you recording stock movements, carrying out Safety and Wellbeing observations, assisting bulk Ship receipts into storage tanks, taking fuel samples to check the quality, inducting contractors onto site, and more. Our Terminal Operations typically happen during business hours Monday to Friday, however at times there is a need for overtime (afterhours and weekends).
It’s a great opportunity to start a new career, previous experience welcomed but not essential, as on the job training will be provided.
A career as a Ringahāpai Tumu Herenga Waka Terminal Operator is a great option for practically minded people who enjoy process and procedure, knowing how things work and the variety of working inside and outside an office. If you are looking to join a small and cohesive team, we would love to hear from you!
And of course, you’ll be passionate about what matters to Z, embracing and living our values to help us deliver on our aspirations and broader commitment to Aotearoa New Zealand.

Z has always been a proud Kiwi company. We’re aspirational for our future, confident of our role in Aotearoa New Zealand’s success and deeply loyal to our customers, communities and people.
At Z we focus on achieving extraordinary outcomes by setting the appropriate context, rather than by telling our people what to do. By doing this, high performing and talented people deliver better results and are more personally fulfilled.
We’re distinctive in our approach and if you’re up for a challenge, we’d love you to be part of it.
