Job summary

Tauranga City Council is hiring a Temporary Traffic Management Compliance Auditor to ensure road works comply with Traffic Management Plans and NZ regulations. You will work with contractors, developers and event organisers, advising on temporary traffic management and safe practices to protect road users.

Ideal candidates have STMS Level 2/3, NZQA Risk Assessment Standard 30265, and at least three years in traffic management or related fields within or with local government or NZTA.

Our Transport team plays a critical role in managing activities within the road corridor to ensure the network remains safe, efficient and accessible for all road users. As a Temporary Traffic Management Compliance Auditor, you'll help ensure work undertaken within the road reserve complies with approved Traffic Management Plans and relevant legislation, standards and guidelines.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with contractors, developers, consultants, utility operators, event organisers and members of the public. Every day brings different challenges, requiring sound judgement, strong communication skills and a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for both the community and our stakeholders.

Reporting to the Team Leader: Corridor Access & Temporary Traffic Management, you will play an important part in supporting safe work practices, protecting all transport users and minimising disruption to the community. You'll bring a customer-focused mindset, build trusted relationships and provide expert advice on temporary traffic management and activities within the road corridor.

Ngā Pukenga | What you'll need to succeed

  • Temporary Traffic Management qualification, STMS Level 2/3 (NP).
  • Risk Assessment Qualification - minimum of NZQA Unit Standard 30265.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in traffic management, roading, utilities, infrastructure or a related field, preferably working with or alongside local government or NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, Utilities Access Act 2010, and the New Zealand Guide to Temporary Traffic Management (NZGTTM).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement and practical solutions.
  • Proven organisational skills and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to engage positively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong digital literacy, including experience using Microsoft Office applications and other business systems.
  • A current full Class 1 Driver Licence.
