Job description
About SMB

Save My Bacon, a Christchurch-born fintech with 13 years of experience in responsible online lending, is rebranding to SMB and scaling into mainstream personal loans, powered by a market-leading fully automated credit decision engine. Our next chapter pairs the agility, customer care, and data-driven decision-making that built our reputation with a broader suite of longer-term credit products designed for everyday New Zealanders. Join us to build green-field risk infrastructure on the shoulders of a trusted brand, balancing compliance and customer experience while steering SMB’s next phase of high-growth innovation.

About the Role

We are seeking a full-time Technology and Data Lead to oversee our technology operations, strengthen data and analytics capabilities, and drive innovation. This is not a pure engineering role but requires strong technical fluency across cloud platforms, SaaS tools, website development, and data systems plus the ability to deliver hands-on solutions while coordinating with vendors and internal teams.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure operational reliability and stability across the technology environment.
  • Act as the first technical point of contact for real-time issue resolution and vendor coordination.
  • Lead development and continuous improvement of customer-facing websites and portals.
  • Manage integrations across systems and stay ahead of API/product changes.
  • Build and maintain data warehousing and analytics automation capabilities.
  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure clean, timely, and accessible data for reporting and insights.
  • Pilot and apply Gen AI / agentic AI tools to unlock insights, automate workflows, and augment decision-making.
  • Oversee platform security, access management, and compliance support.
  • Maintain clear system documentation and coordinate change management.
Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Strong experience in website development (front-end/back-end, APIs, portals).
  • Proven track record in data warehousing and analytics automation.
  • Hands-on comfort with lightweight engineering (e.g., scripting, API work, data wrangling).
  • Solid understanding of cloud-based and SaaS ecosystems.
  • Experience managing integrations and vendor relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve technical issues under time pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues for business stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with Gen AI / agentic AI applications in data, insights, and automation.
  • Experience in financial services or fintech environments, particularly regulated industries.
  • Exposure to compliance frameworks, IT risk assessments, and audits.
  • Background in scaling technology platforms for growth-stage businesses.
  • Experience with modern data stacks and BI/reporting tools.
What We Offer
  • An exciting opportunity to grow with a scaling new brand.
  • High ownership, autonomy, and a real seat at the table in decision-making.
  • Learning and development support (mentoring).
  • Flexible working arrangements (remote/hybrid options available).
  • Collaborative, supportive, and innovative team culture.
  • Competitive salary and a performance-based incentive structure.
