About Us

Venues Ōtautahi own the Christchurch Town Hall and Wolfbrook Arena and manage Apollo Projects Stadium, Hagley Oval, the Air Force Museum of New Zealand, and One New Zealand Stadium. Venues Ōtautahi venues attract and host a wide range of over 500 events in Christchurch and manage a diverse and iconic portfolio of community venues.

About The Role

Venues Ōtautahi is seeking an experienced Technical Services Operations Manager responsible for ensuring that all technical services across One NZ Stadium and wider Venues Ōtautahi venues are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest professional standard.

This role provides leadership to the technical crew, oversees day-to-day operations, and ensures that infrastructure, systems, and resources are in place to deliver successful events and maintain venue readiness.

Flexibility is essential, as the position operates within a seven-day event schedule and may include shift work, evenings, and weekends to support events across our venue portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage technical staff and third-party contractors.
  • Promote a strong health, safety, and wellbeing culture where risks are actively managed.
  • Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of all technical services for events.
  • Deliver all technical requirements and set-up and instructions for all events within all Venues Ōtautahi venues, meeting internal customer and client expectations.
  • Manage the safe operation of venue technical and rigging equipment including AV, IT, lighting, sound and rigging requirements for events are complied with and set-up instructions are followed.
  • Maintain technical assets and infrastructure to a high standard, with planned maintenance schedules.
  • Work closely with other operational managers to deliver seamless event operations.
  • Develop and manage event-day technical plans, rosters, and crew allocations.
  • Ensure technical services are delivered within agreed budgets and to service-level standards.

The Successful Candidate Will Have
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in one of AV, Lighting or Sound and at least 3 years in a leadership position
  • Ability to read and understand rigging plots and diagrams
  • Proven experience in a team leadership role
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships successfully
  • Experience in managing staff rosters
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in a team environment and encourage a strong team culture
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Proven organisational, time management and planning skills
  • High level of computer literacy in all Microsoft products
  • Proven experience in developing Standard Operating Procedures
