Job summary

Qualifications

As the Hawkes BayTechnical & Continuous Improvement Manager - Growing, you’ll play a key role in supporting the technical needs of our pipfruit growing operations. You’ll work closely with orchard managers, R&D teams, and stakeholders to guide continuous improvement initiatives, oversee seasonal data collection, and champion sustainable growing practices.
You’ll be part of a small technical team, to lead and capture best-practice, orchard performance monitoring, and help us stay ahead through trialing new technologies and horticultural practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver CI (Continuous Improvement) initiatives across operations
  • Oversee orchard technical challenges, fruit quality issues, and market access improvements
  • Manage and develop a small team of permanent and seasonal staff
  • Drive innovation through R&D and implement sustainable growing practices
  • Lead harvest planning and execution across NZ orchards
  • Ensure accurate and timely data collection to support key orchard decisions
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers, tech providers, and regulatory bodies

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years’ experience in horticulture (ideally in pipfruit or perishable produce)
  • Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) or equivalent – a relevant degree is a bonus
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data reporting skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
  • Proficient in Power BI, Excel, and web-based databases
  • A passion for sustainability, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Full NZ drivers licence as a company vehicle forms part of the salary package
