About the role:

Selwyn is growing rapidly, with a large rural area spanning from the high country to the plains, as well as fast urban development. This role offers a diverse range of planning work covering various issues.

Due to this growth, we are creating a third Resource Consents Team and are seeking a Team Leader to join our Planning Leadership team. As a member of the leadership team, you will ensure the Resource Consents function is delivered effectively, efficiently, and in a timely manner, while upholding best practices. A key focus is maintaining high-quality customer service with our communities.

Whether you are building on past leadership experience or bringing fresh energy to your first leadership role, we will support you with the necessary tools, training, and guidance.

About you:

You will guide and support your team through effective coaching and mentoring, fostering growth and success for each individual. Create a positive, inclusive environment where everyone feels empowered to perform at their best.

You will help the team achieve shared goals within a values-driven framework that promotes collaboration, trust, and continuous improvement.

To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Strong people leadership skills to support the team in providing high-quality planning analysis and managing daily workloads.
  • Ability to collaborate and build positive relationships with team members, peers, and stakeholders.
  • At least five years of experience in a senior planning role with a strong background in resource consent planning.
  • Expertise in decision-making on resource consent applications within delegations and managing Environment Court appeals.
