This role offers a competitive salary and professional growth opportunities.
This is a 12 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026 with possible extension and/or permanency
Riverton Primary School (PS) is an Independent Public-School catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. We are a welcoming and inclusive community where students work collaboratively in a rich and supportive learning environment to achieve their academic, social, and emotional potential. Our school maintains a strong focus on English, Mathematics, and Science, while also offering specialist programs in Music, Japanese, Art, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Physical Education.
Riverton PS is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, and dynamic Physical Education Teacher to join our team. The successful applicant would be responsible for delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate Physical Education lessons from Year 1 to Year 6. A key focus of this role is the explicit teaching of Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS), particularly in the junior years, to build strong foundations for lifelong physical activity and improved student outcomes. The ideal applicant will display a deep understanding of FMS and be committed to fostering physical literacy through evidence-based teaching practices.
This role requires alignment with the Department of Education’s Quality Teaching Strategy and Teaching for Impact Framework, ensuring that all students are supported to achieve their full potential. The ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D), learning difficulties, and disabilities, is highly desirable. The successful applicant would also support the inclusion of students from Riverton Education Support Centre (RESC) into mainstream Physical Education programs, creating an environment where all students can thrive.
Strong organisational skills are important. The successful applicant would plan, coordinate, and deliver a variety of school-wide sporting programs, including whole-school events, interschool competitions, and excursions. They will ideally be capable of managing competing priorities and ensuring events are well-executed, inclusive, and promote student engagement. Experience in managing a cost centre to support Physical Education outcomes is also desirable. Collaboration with colleagues to ensure the seamless integration of events into the broader school calendar is highly valued.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are critical to this role. The successful applicant should build and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, families, and external stakeholders. Clear and open communication will support a shared understanding of the school’s goals for Physical Education and foster strong community support for programs and events. The ability to represent Riverton PS professionally in various contexts is important.
