Job summary

Te Kura Kōhine o Ahuriri - Napier Girls’ High School sits upon Mataruahou, overlooking Ahuriri, Napier, and provides education for students in Y9-13. Our kura is one of the oldest in Aotearoa for kōhine, young women. Our values of Manaakitanga, Kairangi Whaiaro and Whanaungatanga underpin our kaupapa of empowering ākonga to achieve success and fulfilment for themselves, whānau and the wider community.

Mō te tūranga - About the role

“Mā te whakapapa pounamu, ka puta mai te taonga, he rite anō te reo Māori” - As we smoothen the layers of greenstone, the treasure from within emerges…much like the Māori language. We are seeking an earnest and passionate teacher to join our Languages department. This position will grow the success of our reo Māori classes at NCEA Levels 1-3. All classes are connected by the tūākana/teina relationships of our atua wāhine that are an integral part of our learning.

This role is suitable for any teacher, beginning or experienced and our ideal candidate will have:

  • A teaching qualification. Please state any other specialist subjects in your application.
  • Ability to converse in and teachTeReo Māori
  • Enjoy working with rangatahi
  • Ability to build relationships with tauira,whānau, school staff and our community
  • Experience with Kapa Haka, Hākinakina and fostering Māori leadership is an advantage.
