Primary and intermediate (Years 1–8) / kura tuatahi, Health school teacher

Subjects: English, Health and physical education, Learning languages, Mathematics and statistics, Science, Social sciences, Technology, Te reo Māori, The arts

Special Duties Allowance, Regional Health Schools Unit

Responsibilities

We’re excited to offer a full-time, permanent teaching role at the Epuni Care and Protection residence in Lower Hutt. We’re seeking a nurturing, enthusiastic kaiako committed to empowering ākonga on their learning journey.

  • Has experience in trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice
  • Creates safe, inclusive, mana-enhancing environments that reflect students’ culture, language, and identity
  • Is a strong classroom teacher with knowledge of the NZ Curriculum or Te Marautanga o Aotearoa (Levels 1–8)
  • Uses digital technologies confidently for planning, communication, and admin
  • Has strong literacy/numeracy skills and experience supporting complex learners

Highly desirable: Proficiency in te reo Māori and deep understanding of te ao Māori. We’re looking for someone confident in these areas to support our commitment to bicultural practice and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and help guide our team on this journey.

About the role

You’ll design and deliver personalised programmes that spark curiosity and build on ākonga strengths. Collaboration with our wider team and external agencies is key, including supporting smooth transitions back into community education.
