Te Tihi o Kahukura Heathcote Valley School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher Aide (Kaiāwhina) to join our talented team. This role is based in Heathcote Valley, Christchurch and will involve supporting one or more students with complex education and behaviour needs and providing valuable assistance to our teaching staff. The hours are term-time only and part-time, approximately 15 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

• Providing individualised support to students with diverse learning needs, including behavioural challenges
• Collaborating with teachers to develop tailored learning plans and strategies to help students reach their full potential
• Monitoring student progress, documenting observations, and communicating regularly with teachers and learning support team
• Participating in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in supporting students with special educational needs

About you

• Previous experience as a Teacher Aide or in a similar role supporting students with specific educational needs (preferred but not essential)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, teachers, and families
• Patience, resilience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed
• Excellent problem-solving and adaptability, with the ability to quickly respond to the changing needs of students
• Relevant qualifications or a willingness to undertake further training in special education or a related field
