Job summary

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children is seeking a Te Puna Ngātahi Hub Lead for our National Contact Centre in Grey Lynn, Auckland. The fixed-term role runs until April 2027 and leads a multi‑agency team across OT, NZ Police, Health, Education, Corrections and MSD to support tamariki and rangatahi.

Qualifications

• Full, clean, valid driver’s license.
• Full registration with New Zealand's Social Work Registration Board (SWRB).
• Social worker qualification recognised by SWRB.
• Previous people management and/or mentoring experience is essential.
• Ability to build and lead an effective team and be a team player.
• Proactive approach that places the needs of tamariki front and centre.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to manage competing demands.
• Knowledge of the principals and purposes of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989.
• Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices; knowledge of tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples' culture.

• Position will be based at our National Contact Centre - Grey Lynn Auckland
• Fixed Term, position available - until April 2027
• We're offering a competitive salary starting from, $111,020 to $133,696, depending on experience

We have an opportunity based at our National Contact Centre for a Te Puna Ngatahi Hub Lead that has come up due to parental leave until April 2027. The Multi Agency hub was set up as a prototype to respond to reports of concern when a sole parent goes into prison. You will be leading a multi-agency team of practitioners from Oranga Tamariki, NZ Police, Health, Education, Corrections and MSD working collaboratively to support tamariki or rangatahi who have had a sole parent or carer go to prison.

We are working with tamariki and whānau to make positive changes in our community. We need people who have knowledge, experience and are deeply passionate about whānau wellbeing.

The Te Puna Ngātahi Lead provides strategic, operational and partnership leadership to ensure the Te Puna Ngātahi hub functions as a high-performing, collaborative and child centred multi-agency environment. The role is responsible for strengthening system alignment, maintaining strong governance and assurance, supporting timely and quality decision‑making, and driving continuous improvement. Through confident leadership, trusted relationships and evidence‑based oversight, the Te Puna Ngātahi Lead enables shared accountability, consistent practice and improved outcomes across the system.

The ideal candidate for this role will be an experienced Social Worker or Supervisor Social worker.

Key requirements of the role include

• A full, clean, valid driver's licence.

Oranga Tamariki offer an impartial remuneration package, that offers progression annually for experience through tenure. Annual remuneration for this position starts between $111,020 to $133,696 dependent on experience.
