Overview
They are looking for an experienced and proactive Tax Manager to lead and manage their tax compliance and advisory services. This role plays a critical part in client service delivery, internal efficiency, and maintaining their reputation for excellence in tax management.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance & Filing: Manage accurate and timely filing of all tax returns: Income Tax, GST, FBT, PAYE, CRS; Oversee IR23 declarations, LTC elections, name change notifications, voluntary disclosures, and remission requests
- IRD Relationship & Communication: Act as the primary contact with IRD; resolve queries, initiate transfers, manage instalment arrangements, and respond to audits or reviews; Keep the team and directors informed on compliance statistics and relevant regulatory updates
- Tax Agency & Account Management: Maintain the firm’s tax agency list including client linking/delinking post-AML checks; Reconcile client tax accounts with IRD records; Oversee the timely issuing of tax payment reminders; Manage ACC agency access and queries
- Client & Team Support: Respond to client tax queries and provide technical guidance to accounting staff; Oversee the work of the Tax Administrator; Maintain current knowledge of NZ tax law
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting or Chartered Accountant (CAANZ)
- 5 years' experience in tax advisory and compliance, preferably in a public practice environment
- Strong knowledge of NZ tax legislation and IRD systems
- Proven experience with Income Tax, GST, FBT, PAYE compliance
- Expertise in reconciling IRD accounts, tax anomalies, and credit/payment issues
- High attention to detail, analytical ability and time management
- Clear communication skills
- Proficiency with Xero, Excel and Word
