The Systems Administrator - Patching Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all servers are patched in accordance with the Essential 8 framework, which is a set of cyber security best practices recommended by the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC). The patching specialist will monitor, assess, and apply patches to servers across different operating systems and platforms, as well as troubleshoot any issues that may arise from patching activities.

This role is a full-time permanent role, five days a week, working Thursday to Monday (Including weekends), 7am-3:30pm local time.

What You'll Do
  • Manage and maintain Windows servers versions 2012 and above.
  • Perform patch management using NABLE software.
  • Ensure smooth operation of Windows server environment.
  • Collaborate with the team to troubleshoot and resolve system issues.
  • Monitor and review patching reports and alerts from various sources.
  • Assess the impact and urgency of patches and prioritize them based on the Essential 8 framework and individual clients risk appetite.
  • Apply patches to servers using automated or manual methods, and verify that they are installed correctly and functioning properly.
  • Document and report on patching activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that may arise from patching activities, such as server downtime, performance degradation, or compatibility problems.
  • Coordinate with other teams and stakeholders.
What You’ll Bring
  • Previous experience in a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment.
  • Extensive experience in patching Windows servers versions 2012 and above.
  • Familiar with the Essential 8 framework and its implementation guidelines.
  • Hands-on experience with NABLE for patch management.
  • Strong PowerShell scripting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full working rights in Australia or New Zealand.
  • Familiarity with ITIL Change Management processes.
  • Excellent documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Technical leadership skills in troubleshooting and ticket resolution.
  • Enjoys a fast-paced environment and is comfortable with change.
  • Proficiency in utilizing ConnectWise for time tracking and documentation.
  • Research and stay updated on the latest patching trends, technologies, and best practices.
