Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 16th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Civil Aviation Authority New Zealand - Wellington, North Island

The Civil Aviation Authority and the Aviation Security Service offer distinctively different career opportunities and embrace diverse talent. All jobs at the Authority contribute to ensuring safe and secure skies to help New Zealand fly.

The Civil Aviation Authority is the regulatory arm of our organisation and the Aviation Security Service is the nationwide provider for aviation security.

About the Role

As our System and Security Specialist, you'll play a key role in protecting and enabling the technology that supports New Zealand's aviation safety and security regulator.

Working within the Digital Engineering team, you'll help maintain a secure, resilient, and efficient technology environment. From responding to cyber threats and managing identity and access controls to supporting enterprise systems and software compliance, you'll contribute to the reliable operation of critical business services.

This role offers a mix of hands-on technical work and broader organisational impact. You'll work closely with cybersecurity specialists, digital teams, vendors, and stakeholders across the business to strengthen security, improve governance, and support successful delivery of digital initiatives.

You'll provide trusted advice, contribute to risk and assurance activities, and help shape solutions that enhance user experience, operational performance, and organisational resilience.

If you thrive on solving complex technology challenges and want to make a meaningful contribution in a purpose-driven organisation, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Business Transformation Programme

This is your opportunity to get in at the start.

We are building a team to deliver a significant transformation that will shape the future of the organisation and the aviation sector. With strong executive support and a clear mandate for change, this is an opportunity to work on genuine transformation, not simply improve existing processes or deliver business as usual.

These roles are initially offered on a one-year fixed-term basis while the business case progresses through approval. We recognise that means taking a degree of risk. But for the right person, it is also a chance to get involved at the point where the programme is being shaped, make a meaningful contribution and work on a transformation that is genuinely important.

If you are motivated by complex change and want to help build something significant, this is the time to get involved.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and respond to cybersecurity threats, incidents, and vulnerabilities.
  • Strengthen security controls and support organisational risk management.
  • Manage identity, access, and permissions across enterprise systems.
  • Administer business applications and support secure system operations.
  • Oversee software licensing compliance, renewals, and vendor relationships.
  • Conduct security, access, and compliance audits to improve governance.
  • Provide technical advice that supports digital initiatives and transformation.

The salary band for this role is $98,689 - $120,941. Starting salaries are based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, as well as internal relativities. For more information on the role please view the Position Description

What You'll Bring

We're looking for an experienced technology professional who combines strong technical expertise with sound judgement, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to continuous improvement. You'll be comfortable working across competing priorities, building effective relationships, and translating technical information into practical business outcomes.

To succeed in this role you'll demonstrate:

  • Experience supporting complex enterprise technology environments.
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles and threat management.
  • Expertise in identity and access management practices and tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune, and cloud technologies.
  • Understanding of software licensing and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a risk-based mindset.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and communicate technical concepts clearly.
