Job summary

Southern Cross Wellington Hospital is seeking two compassionate Registered Nurses to join our Surgical Ward on a permanent 0.9 FTE basis. You will provide high-quality care to patients across a broad range of surgical specialties, from admission to discharge, within a modern, patient-centred team.

You must be registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC, have at least two years' post-registration experience in surgical or acute care, and be flexible to rotate.

Qualifications

• Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a valid Annual Practising Certificate.
• Two years’ post-registration nursing experience in a surgical ward, acute care, or comparable hospital environment.
• Previous High Dependency Unit (HDU) experience is highly regarded.
• Surgical nursing experience across a range of specialties.
• Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to recognise, elevate, and manage changes in patient condition.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands.
• Collaborative and team-focused approach.
• Experience in private healthcare is advantageous, but not essential.
• Flexibility to work a rotating roster.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality care to patients across a broad range of surgical specialties from admission through discharge.
• Undertake patient assessments and implement care plans.
• Administer medications and monitor post-operative recovery.
• Respond to changes in patient condition as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Contribute to planning and delivery of safe, patient-centred care.
