Job summary

Hōhepa Canterbury in Christchurch is seeking a dedicated Support Worker to assist three young adults in developing independence and meaningful daily routines. You will provide person-centered support, including daily living tasks, personal cares, cooking, and medication assistance, while promoting community involvement.

Training is provided; prior experience is not required. A NZ full driver’s licence and ability to work in New Zealand are essential.

Qualifications

• On-the-job training provided; no prior experience required.
• Energetic, empathetic, and able to read situations.

Responsibilities

• Support daily routines and encourage independence for each person.
• Assist with personal cares, cooking, medication administration, and household tasks.

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

Alpha Service, based in Rolleston, is home to three amazing young people, each with their own unique routines. We're on the lookout for a passionate Support Worker to support these fantastic individuals, who are in their late teens/early twenties, as they flat together positively and grow their skills for increased independence.

• Charlotte enjoys a wide range of activities, including karate, Special Olympics swimming, and working part-time. She has a wicked sense of humour and loves watching YouTube and movies, as well as singing and dancing.

• Ellie loves creating art and chocolates and works part-time. She participates in various activities and also loves singing and dancing. Ellie is relatively new to flatting and is learning new skills for this.

• Ethan attends a local school in Rolleston. He loves basketball and plays twice a week. Ethan also enjoys gaming and is exploring new activities he might like to participate in. He needs support to live a healthy, balanced life and to establish more routine.

You will be energetic, empathetic and able to work alongsidethis personfocussing on creating a life of rich and diverse experiences while being able to read situations, problem solve and apply boundaries or offer space. Daily tasks include supporting with daily routines while encouraging independence to develop skills and personal growth. You will have the confidence to support personal cares, cooking, medication administration, and household tasks. You will be passionate about supporting and extending people’s ability to access and be part of their wider community. If you are looking for a new challenge this could be the opportunity for you.

This position's salary scale is set by pay equity and dependant on qualification level, pays between $23.95 and $30 per hour.

Nga haora kua tohua | Rostered hours:

• Sunday 2:30pm to 8pm

• Monday and Tuesday 4pm to 8pm

• Wednesday 3pm to 7pm

• Thursday 4pm to 8pm

Total Hours per fortnight: 43

This role is offered on a fixed-term basis until 30 October 2027 to cover a period of maternity leave.
