Job summary

Get Brain Fit is seeking a kind and reliable Support Worker to assist a 26-year-old man with autism. This part-time role offers 6-10 hours weekly across three days, blending practical support, companionship and community outings in a home and community setting.

You will help with routines, activities and encourage independence while ensuring safety and privacy. A NZ driver's license and ability to pass vetting are required.

Job description

We're looking for a kind, calm and reliable Support Worker to support a 26-year-old man with autism to live independently and stay connected with his community. This is a part-time role of approximately 6-10 hours per week across three days, with some flexibility around which days. The role is a mix of practical support, companionship and getting out and about. You'll be supporting him in a relaxed home and community environment, helping with everyday routines and encouraging greater confidence and independence.

Key responsibilities

• Helping with light household tasks and keeping things organized
• Grocery shopping and running occasional errands
• Getting out for walks, activities and community outings
• Providing calm, respectful support with day-to-day routines
• Encouraging independence while being there when support is needed

About you

• Patient, dependable and genuinely enjoys helping people
• Experience supporting people with autism
• A healthcare, disability support or mental health background
• Experience supporting people who may sometimes experience challenging situations or behaviors
• A calm, patient and respectful approach
• Reliability and the ability to commit to regular shifts
• Good spoken and written English
• A high level of integrity and respect for privacy and confidentiality
• A clean, full New Zealand driver's licence
• NZ citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid work visa with at least 12 months remaining
• Ability to successfully complete police vetting
