Job summary

Te Kura in Auckland is seeking a Student Support Advisor to focus on ākonga learning and wellbeing. The role involves providing pastoral support and guidance within NZ Curriculum frameworks, and coordinating with kaiako and families to tailor learning plans.

The successful candidate will support regular online or face-to-face interactions, contribute to a collaborative team, and help ākonga achieve a strong sense of belonging within Te Kura’s flexible learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young people.
  • Understanding of learning and teaching programmes, incl. NZ Curriculum and NZ Qualifications framework.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly review education needs and programmes for ākonga to support their learning journey.
  • Engage with kaiako and other stakeholders to coordinate pastoral care and guidance.
  • Collaborate with the team to provide flexible, student-centred support.

Student Support Advisor (Start January 2027)

Salary ranges from $79,171 up to $95,665

Based in one of our Auckland tari (office).

At Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura), our ākonga are always at the centre of what we do. For more than a century, we've supported learners across Aotearoa — evolving from lessons once delivered on horseback to today's future focused learning that can be done anywhere, anytime.

Ākonga at Te Kura choose subjects based on their passions and interests, accessing learning online supported by kaiako who guide, inspire, and drive engagement. Alongside this, kaiako provide pastoral care and connect with ākonga through regularhuinga ako— online or face to face — where learners connect, receive guidance, and strengthen their sense of belonging.

We are looking for a Student Support Advisor with proven skills and experience in working with young people and who has a good understanding of learning and teaching programmes, including the NZ Curriculum and NZ Qualifications framework.

As a Student Support Advisor, you will play an important roleinthe regular reviewof education needs and programmes of our ākongato make a difference in their learning journey.

For this position, we offer a salary range starting from $79,171 to a maximum of $95,668 per annum pro rata. The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate's unique combination of skills, qualifications, and relevant experience.

You'll bring your excellent communication and proven relationship management skills and experience working across a variety of stakeholders, together with your willingness to work collaboratively to meet ākonga needs.
