Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga - The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) leads Aotearoa - New Zealand's housing and urban development work programme.

The Data & Products team provide a base of data and evidence on housing and urban development and make that evidence accessible for New Zealand, the housing system, and Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga (HUD). The team produce regular data and statistics products for internal and external customers and are responsible for collecting, managing and stewarding the data that HUD needs. The team also provides a critical service to teams across HUD, ensuring they have access to the data and information they need to make important policy decisions.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are looking for an analyst who loves getting their hands dirty with data; solving problems and communicating insights through data and visualisations.

Working closely with the other analysts in the team you will :

  • Produce regular data and Statistics such as the Housing Dashboard
  • Work with colleagues across Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga, Minister’s offices and other government departments to help them find the data and evidence they need
  • Manage and curate consistent, high-quality data and products
  • Develop new tools and products to increase accessibility and understanding of data and evidence

The salary range for these roles is $73,946-$90,378

For this role, we are seeking someone who is at home with data, who can work with customers to understand their needs and deliver the right solution. You will understand and communicate the limitations of data and analysis, and can understand sources and systems to use the right data to answer the question.

You will be a self-starter, with the ability to plan, prioritise and cut through to the urgent and important to achieve a good balance between time and quality. You will also have:

  • No fear of asking questions or saying ‘I don’t understand’
  • An understanding of the importance of good data visualisation to tell a story and enhance understanding and experience creating clear and engaging charts and tables
  • A continuous improvement outlook, seeking out potential for improvements in our systems and processes
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti and the knowhow to consider how it applies to your work
  • Attention to detail

You will have the following skills:

  • A working-skilled level of R programming for data manipulation and cleaning, including good practice in version control and coding standards
  • Data Visualisation –experience developing or maintaining reports and dashboards in Power BI
  • Familiarity with SQL, understanding of database structures and queries
