Job summary

OceanaGold (Macraes mine) seeks a Specialist to own and optimize engineering repairs and projects in the Open Pit Workshop. You will liaise with contractors, plan repair processes on mobile equipment, and support weekly planning with the Maintenance Superintendent.

The role follows a 9-day fortnight roster and requires relocation to East Otago. Join a residential mining operation with a focus on safe, efficient maintenance and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • National Certificate in Engineering—Fabrication (Level 4) or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years in open pit mining.
  • Certifications in first aid, forklift, overhead crane, rigging and slinging, or height work are advantageous.
  • Full, clean NZ driving licence; manual vehicle on rough terrain.
  • Unrestricted NZ Working Visa required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Engineering personnel ensuring safety and quality.
  • Develop wear package designs and repair scopes for wear items.
  • Provide complete work scopes for repairs and refurbishments.
  • Audit inspections and monitor wear package materials (GET).
  • Maintain housekeeping in engineering workshop and facilities.
  • Plan and supervise engineering projects with Boilermakers and contractors.

Job Description
Please note this role is based at Macraes mine, East Otago. As we operate as a residential mine, a relocation to the Dunedin/Oamaru area will be required.

Our Macraes Open Pit Workshop is looking for a Specialist focused on engineering projects. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, this role will work to own and optimise all engineering related repairs and projects in the Open Pit Workshop and liaise with contractors, to plan and scope repair processes on the mobile equipment.

9‑day fortnight roster—5days on, 2days off, 4days on, 3days off, 7:00am—4:30pm.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Production/Operational
  • Supervises Engineering personnel in performance of their duties and to maintain a high standard of safety and work quality.
  • Documenting and maintaining optimum wear package designs to all wear & special items within Sharepoint.
  • Providing high quality complete work scopes for all repairs and refurbishments to wear and special items.
  • Auditing and quality control of routine inspections, monitor and record the condition of ground engaging tooling (G.E.T) and wear package materials providing feedback and recommendations into GET selection and wear package materials.
  • Maintain high levels of housekeeping in engineering workshop and all other facilities, equipment and company vehicles to a high standard.
  • Identify, materials and other resources required to complete allocated tasks following work management process in order to generate actionable workorders.
  • Record and report usage of all components, parts and other resources on work-order jobcards.
  • Carry out general welding repairs and light fabrication work on mining machinery and other plant and equipment as required.
  • Monitor and record wear rates of wear package materials on buckets, blades and bodies/Trays to forecast repair or replacement options.
  • Complete engineer’s reports and maintenance checks on mining equipment during PM maintenance and report scope of works to planning department for execution of work.
  • Attend weekly planning meetings and provide relative information and resources for the planner.
  • Assess, plan and supervise engineering projects to be completed by OGL Boilermakers and contractors.
  • Ensure planned maintenance and inspections of the site facilities, tooling and other workshop equipment is completed and any non-conformances actioned.
  • Follow and Align with the AMF AM10 work flow management.
Qualifications
  • National Certificate in Engineering—Fabrication (Level 4) or similar.
  • At least 5years working in an open pit mining environment.
  • Advantageous but not essential are certificates in: first aid; forklift operations; overhead crane; rigging and slinging and work at height to relevant NZ standards.
  • Full, clean and current driver licence, confidence driving a manual vehicle over rough terrain is essential.
  • This role requires the successful applicant to hold an unrestricted New Zealand Working Visa.
Experience:
  • Experienced across the repair and maintenance of heavy mining machinery in open pit environments including large excavator bucket rebuilds, dump truck tray wear package replacements, refurbishment of blades and ground engaging tools.
  • Experienced in the coaching of other personnel / contractors undertaking engineering type work.
  • General fabrication and design with a high level of computer literacy required.
  • Familiar with the use of CMMS (computer maintenance management systems) for task / work-order generation and requisitioning of materials and resources.
