Job summary

MedRecruit Limited is seeking a psychiatry locum to join Southland Hospital’s inpatient unit on a long-term, on-site basis. The assignment runs from July 2026 to April 2027 with travel and accommodation included.

Applicants should be prepared for on-call responsibilities and be available for extended periods of months rather than weeks. This role offers stable coverage during a period of transition for the hospital.

Qualifications

• Long-term on-site locum cover for inpatient unit.
• On-call duties required.
• Availability spanning months (July 2026–April 2027).

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient psychiatric care as part of the hospital services.
• Fulfill on-call responsibilities during locum period.

Job description

Locum cover is required for:

• ASAP - 11 September 2026
• 28 September - 2 October 2026
• 5 - 9 October 2026
• 16 November - 18 December 2026
• 18 December 2026 onwards

Position Details:

• Southland Hospital are seeking long term, onsite cover for their inpatient unit.
• Due to a longer term locum finishing up and a retiring Psychiatrist they are going to have urgent needs which has meant they are needing committed cover options from July 2026 to April 2027.
• With this in mind they have the opportunity to review candidates with good availability (this needs to be periods of months rather than weeks) and seek approval for increased rates.
• Please note that on call is a requirement for this cover.
