In this dynamic role, you’ll provide expert leadership and guidance across the Lower Mainland, ensuring that our Coding and HIM teams are aligned with the highest standards. You’ll develop, maintain, and deliver training for new and existing staff, act as a liaison with key stakeholders, and drive data quality improvements. What You Bring
Education
- Graduation from an accredited Health Information Management Diploma or Bachelor Program.
- Five (5) years of recent, related experience in Coding inpatient and surgical day care records in a tertiary setting, including two (2) years as a data analytics or data quality analyst, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Canadian College of Health Information Management (CHIM) certification and active membership with the Canadian Association of Health Information Management (CHIMA).
- Travel between HIM sites requires access to a vehicle and a valid BC Driver’s License.
Skills and Abilities
- Understanding of quality assurance techniques and processes related to continuous quality improvement.
- Knowledge and ability to utilize report writer tools, such as Crystal Report design, MS SQL Server.
- Ability to code in ICD-10-CA/CCI and abstract in the CIHI Discharge Abstract database.
- Knowledge of Case Mix Groups, CACS, RIW, and ELOS.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Leadership, mentoring, and teaching abilities.
- Ability to develop learning materials and tools.
- Organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and work independently.
- Interpersonal skills to maintain cooperative relationships.
- Knowledge of computer programs and equipment related to the role.

Your Day to Day
- Lead coding standards and data quality initiatives, acting as an expert resource for Lower Mainland HIM Coders and staff.
- Develop, maintain, and evaluate training materials for staff and students.
- Serve as the internal point of contact for coding queries, collaborating with CIHI, BCRCP, and other databases.
- Liaise with stakeholders to ensure data quality from patient coding.
- Assist with exploring new healthcare delivery modes supporting data needs.
- Coordinate coding standards updates with CIHI.
- Develop and update coding policies and manuals.
- Develop data quality audit processes to improve processes.
- Assist in testing proficiency levels for coding staff, addressing data quality issues.
- Collaborate with LM HIM Leadership to align coding standards with organizational goals.
- Travel to HIM sites as needed.
- Perform other related duties.
