Job summary

Waikato Hospital, a leading tertiary hospital in Hamilton, seeks a Cardiac Sonographer to perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms and assist with TOE studies. You will support dynamic inpatient and outpatient services, including ED, ICU and operating theatres, and contribute to satellite clinics across the region.

Registered NZ MRTB and current practice certificate are required. A diverse, growth-focused team awaits.

Qualifications

• Must be registered as a sonographer with the NZ MRTB and hold a current practising certificate.
• Eligible to work in New Zealand.
• Be able to perform and report echocardiography and related procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms.
• Assist with transoesophageal studies and echo-guided procedures.
• Support inpatient and outpatient services including ED, ICU, and operating theatres.
• Participate in satellite echocardiography clinics.
• Be part of the on-call after hours service.
• Complete preliminary reports with Cardiology/Echo system.

About the Role

As a cardiac Sonographer at Waikato hospital, Australasias largest Hospital campus and major tertiary hospital you will play a pivotal role in the delivery of high-quality cardiac care. Your responsibilities will include performing and reporting on transthoracic echocardiograms, as well as assisting with transoesophageal studies and other echo-guided procedures. You will support both inpatient and outpatient services, including urgent assessments in the Emergency Department, ICU, and operating theatres. In addition, our service extends to satellite echocardiography clinics in surrounding communities, offering a diverse and rewarding scope of practice. Key responsibilities of the role:

Undertake a full range of echocardiographic examinations and complete technical reportsComplete preliminary reports with Cardiology/Echo systemIdentify, demonstrate and report cardiac pathologiesParticipate in TTE and TOE lists within the department as well as mobile and bedside examinations when requiredSupport other more complex procedures in the operating theatre and cardiac catheter lab when required i.e. Percutaneous valve replacement, PFO and ASD/VSD closure devices and balloon valvuloplastiesParticipate in the on call after hours servicePerform an echo list at one of our satellite hospitals

Be registered as a sonographer with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologist Board (MRTB) with a current practicing certificate;ORHave an appropriate qualification for cardiac sonography acceptable for registration as a sonographer with the New Zealand MRTBMust be eligible to work in New Zealand
