Due to roll growth in our Outreach Services, Mt Richmond Special School is seeking experienced specialist teachers skilled in working with students with intellectual disabilities. These positions will start in term 1, 2026.

The successful candidates will have excellent interpersonal skills and be passionate about supporting students in the Ongoing Resourcing Scheme (ORS) in mainstream schools. The special needs outreach teacher works as part of the student’s support team, which includes their class teachers, MOE Special Education staff, support staff and family/whānau.

The role may encompass a range of activities, including but not limited to:

  • Teaching, assessing and developing programmes for individual ORS students in mainstream schools
  • Monitoring progress and next steps
  • Modelling, supporting teachers and support staff
  • Contributing to IEPs, whānau meetings
  • Annual report.

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Current NZ teacher registration
  • Experience working with special needs students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities (ORS funded)
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with staff in Mt Richmond School and the mainstream school, sharing ideas and innovative practice
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

We will only consider candidates who are eligible to work in New Zealand.

The base salary range for trained and registered teachers is dependent on the applicant’s qualifications and experience. An individual’s actual base salary will be established by a salary assessment once a role is confirmed (see Part 3: Remuneration in the 2022-2025 PTCA collective agreement).
