Gather Eatery Limited in New Zealand is seeking a passionate Sous Chef to join their innovative culinary team. Gather is an exciting new licensed eatery at the heart of the vibrant Smales Farm business park. Created by the innovative team behind Ripe Deli, we’re dedicated to delivering a warm, welcoming dining experience within the thriving "The Goodside" food precinct.
We’re seeking a talented SousChef to join our culinary team and work alongside our Executive and Head Chef to bring our vision to life: a fun, vibrant space serving delicious seasonal food, exceptional coffee, and a well-crafted drinks menu. As a key leader in our kitchen, you’ll drive creativity, ensure operational excellence, and inspire a passionate team to deliver outstanding dishes in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Executive and HeadChef to design and execute seasonal menus that reflect current food trends and delight our guests.
- Oversee daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, quality control, and presentation standards.
- Assist in managing inventory, ordering, and supplier relationships to maintain cost efficiency and ingredient freshness.
- Leading by example to train and motivate the kitchen team, fostering a positive and collaborative culture.
- Ensure seamless coordination with front-of-house staff for efficient service flow.
- Uphold strict health, safety, and hygiene standards in the kitchen.
- Contribute to special events, promotions, and functions with innovative culinary offerings.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience as a Sous chef in a fast-paced, high-quality restaurant.
- Strong culinary expertise with a focus on seasonal, contemporary cuisine.
- Minimum 2 years’ leadership experience in a professional kitchen environment.
- Proficiency in kitchen management systems, inventory control, and cost management.
- Creative flair and a deep understanding of food and beverage trends.
- Ability to thrive under pressure in a busy kitchen environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Flexibility with shift hours , must be available weekends , public holidays.
