Job description
Ko wai mātou – About us

Kia ora. We’re Foodies. You know New World, PAK’nSAVE and Four Square right? That’s us!

With 300+ stores and over 24,000 Foodies across Te Ika-a-Maui, our North Island Co-op has the privilege of helping New Zealanders get more out of life. Locally owned, we reflect the communities we serve, and we celebrate our people - our taonga, every day for being uniquely them.

Our Support Centre is 1,000+ people strong, which includes 300+ IT employees, who all play a vital role in ensuring the cogs of our Co-op stay turning and our systems stay ‘byte’-sized and ‘bug’-free.

Te Tūranga – About the role

Are you passionate about creating smart, scalable solutions that drive real impact for customers and the business? As a Solution Architect in our dynamic Digital team, you’ll be at the heart of designing future-focused digital and e-commerce platforms that shape the retail experiences of millions of New Zealanders. You\'ll work at the sweet spot between enterprise architecture, digital product, and delivery — bringing bold ideas to life through practical, well-crafted solutions.

This is a role where you’ll get to flex both your strategic thinking and technical expertise. You’ll guide teams to deliver modern, high-performing systems that are secure, resilient, and built to scale — all while keeping the customer at the centre of every architectural decision. If you thrive in agile environments, love turning complexity into clarity, and want to help define the digital retail landscape of the future, we’d love to hear from you.

In this role, you will:

  • Architect and guide delivery of best-in-class digital and e-commerce solutions that are resilient, scalable, and customer-first.
  • Act as the glue between business, product, and engineering — ensuring solutions meet both immediate needs and long-term vision.
  • Champion architectural best practices, design patterns, and standards across squads and platforms.
  • Bring our future-state retail technology vision to life, working closely with Enterprise and Principal Architects.
  • Collaborate within agile squads to embed architecture into everyday delivery — making big ideas real, fast.
Ngā painga - What we offer

We’re committed to providing awesome experiences for our people, including offering a range of benefits:

  • Free carparking - we’ve got over 1,000 carparks including 36 free EV plugs
  • Southern cross health insurance and 5% discount at our retail stores
  • Onsite café with subsidised meals and a mini mart
  • Flexible working options, a day off on your birthday, long service leave
  • Inhouse learning and development programmes and courses, flu vaccinations, and social network groups (we call them Tribes).
He kōrero mōu - About you

You’re a seasoned Solution Architect with a strong technical foundation and a passion for creating exceptional digital and e-commerce experiences. With 7+ years in architecture and design — and a background in development, tech leadership, or application architecture — you’re skilled at bringing together people, processes, and technology to build future-ready solutions. You have a deep understanding of modern digital platforms, APIs, and cloud-native development, and you’re equally confident leading architecture strategy as you are working alongside delivery teams.

Technically sharp and commercially savvy, you’re comfortable engaging with a wide range of stakeholders — from developers to senior leaders — and you’re known for your ability to communicate complex ideas clearly. You’re curious, collaborative, and always looking for ways to raise the bar.

You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in customer-facing digital and e-commerce technologies, ideally in grocery, retail, or FMCG.
  • A strong grasp of adjacent domains such as customer marketing, loyalty, campaign management, real-time processing, and customer analytics.
  • Deep technical knowledge of APIs, RESTful services, and contract-led development, with experience designing and exposing secure, scalable data and operations.
  • Proficiency in modern cloud-delivered technologies (e.g. Azure or AWS), and working knowledge of CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and automation in cloud environments.
  • Excellent modelling and diagramming skills — fluent in UML and business modelling languages like ArchiMate, with experience using enterprise architecture tools and frameworks (TOGAF, ITAC, IBM AD 2.0, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with platforms such as Sitecore, Salesforce, and SAP is an advantage.
  • Strong planning and communication skills, with the ability to translate architecture into clear, compelling stories for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A relevant Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent qualification.
