Job summary

Lightforce Ltd is expanding its solar installation team in Hamilton, NZ. This hands-on role involves working outdoors on residential and commercial rooftop solar projects alongside installers and project managers.

You will spend days on rooftops, wiring, connecting inverters and PV systems, and delivering high-quality solar installations across New Zealand. Training is provided; prior solar experience is not required.

Qualifications

  • NZ Electrical Registration or NZ Limited Certificate (EWRB) is required.
  • Full NZ Driver Licence is required.
  • Current work rights in NZ preferred.
  • Have your own basic tools or be willing to purchase them.
  • Comfortable working at heights, climbing ladders, and on rooftops.
  • Enjoy practical, hands-on work.

Responsibilities

  • Install wiring, switchgear, transformers, panels and mounting systems for solar power solutions on residential and commercial sites.
  • Connect and commission inverters, battery systems, charge controllers and storage components.
  • Install and maintain PV systems and related equipment.
  • Interpret electrical diagrams and solar specifications.
  • Perform electrical safety testing and ensure compliance with NZ standards and regulations.
  • Support installation teams during project delivery.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and health & safety initiatives.
  • Provide professional and friendly customer service.

About You
  • NZ Electrical Registration, or NZ Limited Certificate (EWRB)
  • Hold a Full NZ Driver Licence

  • Enjoy practical, hands-on work

  • Don't take the piss out of Health and Safety
  • Have a positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Work well in a team

Experience in any of the following is a bonus:

  • Solar installations
  • Residential electrical work
  • Commercial electrical work
  • Industrial electrical work
  • Battery systems
  • EV chargers
  • Switchboards and distribution systems
  • Any other practical electrical experience

Solar experience is not required (but is a bonus)

About the Role

This is a hands-on role working alongside installers and project managers on residential and commercial solar projects.

You'll spend your days working outdoors, on rooftops, and as part of a team delivering high-quality solar installations across New Zealand.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Install wiring, switchgear, transformers, panels, and mounting systems for solar power solutions across residential and commercial sites
  • Connect and commission inverters, battery systems, charge controllers, and other energy storage components
  • Install and maintain photovoltaic (PV) systems and related equipment
  • Interpret electrical diagrams, technical documentation, and solar specifications
  • Perform electrical safety testing and ensure all work meets NZ standards and regulations
  • Diagnose faults, complete repairs, and replace components where needed
  • Support installation teams during project delivery
  • Assist with warehouse duties including stocktaking, picking, loading and unloading kits when required
  • Participate in toolbox talks and health & safety initiatives
  • Contribute to a positive team environment
  • Provide professional and friendly customer service

This role may require occasional travel and overnight stays, but we try to keep this minimal.
